Hilliard, Ohio Realtor Nathan White
Hilliard sits on the northwest side of Columbus in Franklin County, between Big Darby Creek and the Scioto River, about 12 miles from downtown, with Interstate 270 running right through it. I've sold real estate in central Ohio since 2014, more than 500 homes so far, and in 2026 RealTrends verified me as the #1 agent in Plain City by volume and sides. Hilliard is a short drive from my house, and a lot of my Plain City and Dublin buyers end up looking here too.
The city itself is about 37,000 people. The 43026 zip code and the Hilliard school district both cover a lot more ground than that, and the difference shows up in your taxes, so I'll get to it below. These are the parts of Hilliard people ask me about most.
The neighborhoods, the way I'd explain them
Old Hilliard is where the town started, around a railroad stop that was literally called Hilliard's Station. The homes are older and the lots are smaller, but you can walk to Hilliard's Station Park for the splash fountains and summer events, grab breakfast at the Starliner Diner, and hop on the Heritage Rail Trail, which starts right here and runs about seven miles.
The midcentury neighborhoods, like Luxair and Roman Hill Estates, grew up when Hilliard started booming in the 1950s and 60s. Hilliard Green is known for single story homes on bigger lots. If you want one floor living without buying brand new, this is where I start looking.
Heritage Preserve, Hoffman Farms and Heritage Creek are where buyers usually land when they want a newer two story house, more square footage and a neighborhood feel. Heritage Golf Club is out this way too.
Brown Township, west of the city, is for people who want room. Bigger lots, a quieter road, and Prairie Oaks and Battelle Darby Creek Metro Parks close by. You keep the Hilliard address, but you're not in the City of Hilliard, which matters more than people think.
Prices move every week, so I don't list them here. Ask me and I'll tell you what each neighborhood is actually selling for right now.
Two things nobody tells you
A Hilliard address doesn't mean the City of Hilliard. 43026 is a postal zone, not a city limit. It reaches into Brown and Norwich Townships and parts of Columbus. I check every property by parcel, not by mailing address.
City limits change your taxes. Inside the City of Hilliard you pay a 2.5% city income tax, with full credit for what you already pay where you work, so most commuters barely notice it. If you work from home or run your own business, you will. A township address doesn't carry that city income tax, but you'll see township levies on your property tax bill. I'll pull the real numbers before you write an offer.

Hilliard FAQ
What county is Hilliard, Ohio in?
Franklin County, on the northwest side of the Columbus area. Madison County and Union County are both a short drive west and north.
What school district is Hilliard in?
Hilliard City Schools, which has three high schools: Bradley, Darby and Davidson. The district covers more than the city, including parts of Columbus, Dublin and Galloway, so a Columbus address can still land you in Hilliard schools. I verify the district by parcel on every house I show.
Is Hilliard its own city?
Yes. John Reed Hilliard bought farmland here in 1852, the town was laid out in 1853 around the railroad station, it became a village in 1869, and it became a city in 1960.
What is there to do in Hilliard?
Walk or bike the Heritage Rail Trail, catch an event at Hilliard's Station Park, or hit Freedom Fest on the Fourth of July at Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park. The Franklin County Fair is in Hilliard every summer, and the Early Television Museum is right next to Station Park.
How far is Hilliard from downtown Columbus?
About 20 minutes, depending on traffic and where in Hilliard you start. Interstate 270 and Interstate 70 do most of the work.
Do you only work in Hilliard?
No. I live in Jerome Township, and I also sell in Plain City, Dublin, Powell, Lewis Center, Marysville, Delaware, and Columbus. If you're deciding between Hilliard and Dublin, I'll walk you through how they stack up.
